Bring Home A Piece of the Party!

Being that last week’ s Souvenir Saturday was missed, hopefully I make up for it with an extra amazing item this week.

Sometimes Disney parks are so magical, filled with joy and elation it can make one want to break out in song and dance. On some occasions, venues within Disney parks transform into hoppin’ party atmospheres. One of my favorite displays of this happens when Swing Dancing events happen at what use to be known as the Carnation Plaza, now known as the Royal Theatre, at Disneyland. Walt Disney once said that as long as he was alive, swing dancing would never leave Disneyland. There is a Disney character that epitomizes this swingin’ party atmosphere like no other - the king of swing himself, King Louie from the Jungle Book - as he sings “I want to be like you.” For this weeks Souvenir Saturday, you can bring a taste of King Louie’s swingin’ party home with you!

From the Twenty Eight & Main collection, which continues to impress with every new piece of merchandise they release, I bring to you Louie's Swing Club Ceramic Jug! This jug is a parody of King Louie as the owner of a swing club complete with his band of musical monkeys that “appear nightly in the Jungle Room.” Pretty hilarious in my humble opinion and extremely nostalgic. I have such fond memories of that scene specifically in the Jungle Book and the presence of swing dance at Disneyland dating back to Walt’s own vision makes it even more special. The details on this are fantastic! On top of the lid it says, "Est. 1967" which is the year Jungle Book was released. Also, on the faux leather wrist strap "Twenty Eight & Main" is stamped. Very classy! While the characters are not depicted themselves, their personality is certainly not lacking within the design!
